The Gardens were originally part of the Wilton Estate and were gifted to the Council in 1902 for "the benefit of the inhabitants of Weymouth." FOGG Committee Member Iain Campbell researched the legal position of the Gardens in July 2006. It was at a time when the Council were considering plans to erect a large Restaurant on the tennis courts in the Gardens. This plan was received with almost universal dismay. It was subsequently shelved. The letter does give a good insight to the legal position in respect of the Gardens.

OLD IMAGES OF THE GARDENS
This is a painting of the Floral Clock in the Gardens believed to be from the 1950's. It looks very much like a photograph, but is the work of a well known artist, Brian Gerald, who painted many scenes in the 1940's and 1950's. Some of them were made into postcards as this one was. It was produced by Valentine & Sons and supplied by FOGG Member Graham Dubben. This is a painting of the Floral Clock in the Gardens believed to be from the 1950's.
